Developing internal communications in a high-growth environment

Checkout launched as a cloud-based payments platform in 2012, growing quickly in a fast-changing world of global digitisation. In 2022 it has nearly 2,000 employees in 19 global offices, helping businesses and communities thrive in the digital economy.

Checkout recognised the need to lay strong foundations to enable the ongoing maturation of IC and their channels strategy, and asked us to conduct an internal communications audit to identify areas for development.

As change at Checkout continues at pace, so do the communication demands on leaders and managers. We developed a framework for leader and manager communications, to drive consistency and help new managers coming into the business. We also provided a leaders’ change communications playbook, and a managers’ communications toolkit.

Growth at Checkout includes acquisitions, so our support included scoping an M&A playbook to cover all aspects of M&A communications. Our comprehensive content framework was developed with input from a wide range of Checkout stakeholders.

With these foundations in place, communications at Checkout continue to evolve to match the high-performance demands of this hypergrowth company.

“I joined Checkout in 2021 to develop the internal communications function from scratch. HarknessKennett quickly understood the environment at Checkout and provided practical support that resonated with our culture and ambitions”
