Research driven improvements

With a new CEO, strategy and operating model in place, World Animal Protection’s vision is a world where welfare matters and animal cruelty has ended: “Together we move the world to protect animals”.

At the heart of this organisation are their people, widely dispersed across the world, many feeling distant from each other as they support World Animal Protection’s work.  A new Head of Internal Communications had spent much of her first eighteen months establishing solid foundations for internal communications but wanted insights to gain a better understanding of the opportunities for improvement.

We used a range of research techniques to fully explore the future needs of communications: the senior team and remote colleagues shared their views through one-on-one interviews, both face to face and via Skype; office-based teams and managers joined fast paced, structured workshops; and to underpin the research with robust baseline data, we gave everyone the opportunity to complete an online survey. All of this was achieved against challenging budgetary constraints.

The review has equipped the Internal Communications team with deep insights into what’s working and what’s not, highlighted gaps for improvement and provided a baseline of statistically relevant data. This formed the basis of a robust report and supported by the Head of IC’s strategy has gained senior leadership buy-in and support.

“HarknessKennett delivered insights which have helped to further World Animal Protection’s vision and work globally. Successfully involving our colleagues across the world was not easy but it was a worthwhile and important step in our efforts to engage our people in a conversation about communications.”
